Haida artist April White possesses a heritage in which art is a cultural tradition. The myths and legends of her people live in her work. This blanket is adapted from White’s painting, White Raven’s Moonlit Flight. According to Haida legend, through his powers as the Transformer and Trickster, Raven disguised himself and stole the Moon from the Sky Chief for humankind in exchange for his fill of fish. Woven in our Northwest mill, it is robe size, preferred by Native Americans for ceremonial purposes and for wrapping about oneself. It is impressive as wall a hanging or draped on a sofa or bed. Accompanied by a story card.
