About the artist:

Fernando Cellicion lives in the Zuni Pueblo village located on the Zuni Indian Reservation in the western part of New Mexico.

Fernando is a member of the Artists of Indian America, Inc., an organization founded by opera singer Bonnie Jo Hunt. The AlA. is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, The New Mexico Arts Division, and private contributions. The AlA travels to different communities and schools to motivate and promote cultural pride in young Native American people through the arts. Fernando serves the AlA. as a Native American Dance Specialist.

Colorful, poignant and textured, these songs are uniquely presented including vocals by Joanne Shenandoah on six tracks and instruments including guitar, cittern, dulcimer, bass, drums, eagle bone whistle and of course, Youngblood's exquisite multi-chamber Native flutes. Both meditative and playful, this recording is a true celebration of the heart. Dedicated to three Americans who worked with the U'wa people of the rain forest, this recording is named Heart of the World, the name the U'wa people have given their native lands in South America. A portion of the proceeds from this release will benefit the U'wa people and their fight against the global oil companies who are threatening their lands.

Heart of the World has been named BEST NATIVE AMERICAN RECORDING by The Association For Independent Music (Indie Award) and New Age Voice (NAV Award). This release has also garnered the NAMMY Award for BEST NEW AGE RECORDING at the 2000 Native American Music Awards.

On this debut release, Mary Youngblood performs on a variety of flutes, crafted from various types of wood and in different keys, giving each one its own unique sound.

Television audiences were first introduced to Youngblood on a PBS special entitled, American Indian Circles of Wisdom," which featured Youngblood's original compositions. A top emerging artist, Youngblood has been featured in News From Indian Country, Explore Indian Country, Native Peoples Magazine and Aboriginal Voices. Songs from "The Offering" will also be featured on "Heartbeat II," a compilation of Native American Women artists on the Smithsonian Folkways label. Youngblood's music is also included on "Naturally Native," a 1998 film produced, written and directed entirely by Native Americans.

"The Offering," a traditional solo flute release, features all original compositions recorded live in the natural acoustic space of the underground Moaning Caverns of California. The Flute comes alive in the hands of Mary Youngblood. Her haunting music is much more than a song, it is "liquid poetry, a prayer."

Recorded live in 1997 inside the Moaning Caverns Executive Producer, James Marienthal said, "We listen in awe as the music flows forth, resonating throughout the cavern. Besides Mary's flute and breath, the only sound heard on this recording are the natural sounds of the cavern, which add just enough presence to let yourself imagine being there."

The Best of Tchin is a compilation of 28 beautiful songs from all of Tchin’s previous recordings.

He plays his beautiful, haunting songs on a variety of traditional flutes from short to long ones, from four holes to six. In addition to the Native American courting flute, the array of flutes include the nose flute, drone flute and elk flute.

Other accompanying instruments include the drum and thumb piano. Guest musicians featured are Yovani on the South American pan pipe and Jerry Topak on acoustic guitar.
